Consumer Unit Replacement in Bradley Stoke

ABOUT THE PROJECT
Consumer Unit Replacement in Bradley Stoke

We recently completed a consumer unit replacement in Bradley Stoke, upgrading the property’s electrical installation to meet current safety standards.

Older fuse boards often lack modern protection and may not comply with current regulations. Replacing them with a new consumer unit improves safety and reliability.

Why Replace Your Consumer Unit?

Older fuse boards — particularly those with rewirable fuses or early MCB-only boards — don’t offer the level of protection that modern consumer units provide. Current regulations require RCD or RCBO protection on most circuits, which significantly reduces the risk of electric shock and electrical fires.

Beyond safety, an outdated consumer unit can also be a flag for insurance companies and prospective buyers. Upgrading to a modern board gives the property a clean electrical bill of health.

What We Installed

We removed the existing fuse board and installed a new consumer unit with individual RCBO protection on each circuit.

  • New consumer unit with RCBO protection per circuit
  • All circuits tested before and after installation
  • Inspection of existing wiring and connections
  • Electrical Installation Certificate provided on completion

RCBOs vs RCDs — What’s the Difference?

Older boards often used a single RCD to protect multiple circuits. The downside is that if one circuit trips the RCD, everything on that side of the board goes off. RCBOs give each circuit its own combined MCB and RCD protection, so a fault on one circuit affects only that circuit — the rest of the property stays on.

It’s a more resilient setup and is now standard practice for new consumer unit installations.
