Most home EV chargers do one thing — charge your car. The Zappi does that too, but it also integrates with your solar panels and battery storage to make charging as cheap as possible — and in many cases completely free.The key feature is solar divert. Instead of exporting your surplus solar generation to the grid at a low SEG rate, the Zappi detects that surplus and diverts it to charge your car instead. You’re using energy you’ve already generated rather than buying it back from the grid later.For households with solar panels in Bristol and South Gloucestershire, this is the single most effective way to reduce the running cost of an electric vehicle.
The Zappi has three charging modes, which you can switch between depending on your priorities:
Eco Mode The Zappi uses any available solar surplus to charge your car, topping up from the grid only when solar generation drops below the minimum charge rate (1.4kW). This balances free solar charging with ensuring your car always gets a charge — ideal for everyday use.
Eco+ Mode The purist option. The Zappi only charges when there’s sufficient solar surplus — it won’t draw from the grid at all. Your car charges for free or not at all. Best used when you have time to spare and want to maximise self-consumption.
Fast Mode Standard charging from the grid at full 7.4kW. Useful when you need a full charge quickly regardless of solar generation — before a long journey, for example. The same charging speed as any standard 7.4kW home charger.

The Zappi is the right choice if:
You have solar panels — The solar divert feature is the Zappi’s standout selling point. If you have panels, there’s no better charger for making the most of your generation.
You’re planning to install solar panels — Even if you don’t have panels yet, installing a Zappi now means you’re fully set up to benefit from solar divert when you do. We install a lot of Zappis alongside new solar systems across Bristol and South Gloucestershire.
You want to charge on an off-peak tariff — The Zappi’s scheduling feature lets you set charging windows to coincide with cheaper overnight electricity — Octopus Go, Intelligent Octopus and similar tariffs pair well with it.
You want the most feature-rich home charger available — If you want app control, voice control, solar integration, load balancing and scheduling all in one unit, the Zappi covers it all.
It might not be the right choice if:
You don’t have solar panels and don’t plan to install them — in that case the BG Sync EV is a more straightforward and better value option. We’ll always give you honest advice on which charger suits your setup rather than just recommending the more expensive one.

A MyEnergi Zappi is installed from £1,181 inc VAT — including all cabling, a consumer unit check and full OZEV certification. The final price depends on the cable run and whether any additional work is needed. We provide a fixed price before we start. Get in touch for a quote based on your specific property.
Most Zappi installations take between six and eight hours. If a consumer unit upgrade is also needed, allow a little longer. We’ll give you an accurate timescale when you book.
No — the Zappi works as a standard 7.4kW home charger without solar panels, and you can use its scheduling feature to charge on cheap off-peak tariffs. That said, the solar divert feature is its standout selling point, so it makes the most sense for homes with solar panels or plans to install them.
The Zappi monitors how much electricity your solar panels are generating and how much your home is using. Any surplus generation that would otherwise be exported to the grid is diverted to charge your car instead. In Eco+ mode this happens automatically — your car only charges when there’s genuine surplus available.
Yes — the Zappi is compatible with all solar PV systems regardless of brand or inverter type. It uses a current transformer (CT clamp) to monitor generation and consumption, so it doesn’t need to integrate directly with your inverter.
Yes — the Zappi works alongside battery storage. If you have a myenergi Libbi battery, the two devices communicate directly via the myenergi hub and can be managed together through the app. With other battery systems, the Zappi uses its CT clamp to monitor the overall household energy flow and divert accordingly.
In Eco mode the Zappi uses solar surplus but tops up from the grid when solar generation drops below the minimum charge rate of 1.4kW. In Eco+ mode the Zappi only charges from solar — it won’t draw from the grid at all. Eco mode is better for reliability; Eco+ is better for maximising free charging.
Yes — the Zappi integrates well with Octopus Go and Intelligent Octopus. You can set charging schedules to coincide with off-peak windows, or use Intelligent Octopus which can communicate directly with compatible chargers to automatically schedule charging during cheap periods.

Yes — the myenergi app lets you monitor charging, switch modes, set schedules and check your solar generation and consumption from anywhere. It’s compatible with iOS and Android and also integrates with Alexa and Google Home for voice control.
