We’ve installed a good number of FoxESS battery systems over the past couple of years. Here’s our trade perspective on how they stack up.

What FoxESS makes
FoxESS produce both low-voltage and high-voltage battery options for residential and small commercial storage. The most common install we do is their modular lithium-ion system, which pairs with their own inverter range and integrates well with solar setups. Capacity can be expanded by adding modules, which is useful if you want to start smaller and scale up later.
The headline performance numbers are competitive: depth of discharge around 90%, and round-trip efficiency in the region of 95%. In plain terms, that means you get back most of what you put in with minimal waste — on par with the better systems on the market.
Installation
From an installer’s perspective, FoxESS are straightforward to work with. The documentation is clear, the modular design makes handling on site easier, and the inverters communicate with the batteries reliably out of the box. They’re also compatible with a range of other inverter brands for retrofit situations, which gives more flexibility than some competitors.
Like all lithium-ion systems, temperature affects performance, so proper placement and ventilation matter. We always discuss this during the survey.
Reliability and warranty
FoxESS come with a standard 10-year warranty. It’s worth reading the small print on capacity retention — most manufacturers guarantee the battery holds a certain percentage of its original capacity by the end of the warranty period. The reliability data from our installs has been good, though FoxESS are still building their long-term track record in the UK compared to more established brands.
Value for money
This is where FoxESS stand out. They’re priced below the likes of Tesla Powerwall and GivEnergy for similar specifications, which makes them an attractive option for customers who want solid performance without paying a premium for brand name alone. For most households, the difference in specs doesn’t justify the extra cost of the alternatives.
