The Zappi Glo from MyEnergi is one of the smarter home EV chargers on the market, and it’s become one of our more popular installs at LA Electrical & Solar. Here’s our honest take on it.

What makes the Zappi Glo different?
Most home chargers do one thing: they charge your car. The Zappi Glo does that too, but it can also read what your solar panels are generating and divert that surplus energy into your car rather than exporting it back to the grid. That’s what makes it stand out.
There are three charging modes. Fast mode draws full power from the grid (up to 7kW). Eco mode tops up your battery using a mix of solar and grid power. Eco+ mode waits until you’re generating enough solar surplus to charge entirely for free. If you’ve got panels, that last mode can make a real difference over time.
The myenergi app lets you set schedules, monitor usage, and switch modes remotely. It’s one of the more polished EV apps we’ve come across — clear, reliable, and actually useful. The unit also receives over-the-air software updates, so you’re not stuck on an old firmware version.
On the safety side, it includes built-in PEN fault protection, which means most installations don’t need an earth rod. Dynamic load balancing is also built in, so it automatically adjusts the charge rate if your home is drawing a lot of power elsewhere.
Installation
The Zappi Glo works with all UK Type 2 EVs and connects to your home network via Wi-Fi or Ethernet. Installation needs to be done by a qualified electrician — your installer will assess your electrical capacity and handle the G98/G99 application if that’s required.

A few things to consider
It costs more than a basic charger. If you don’t have solar panels and you’re just after a straightforward home charge point, something like the Wallbox Pulsar Max will do the job at a lower price. The Zappi makes most sense when you’ve got panels to pair it with, or when you’re planning to add them.
The setup is also slightly more involved than a plug-and-play unit — there’s more to configure. Your installer should walk you through the app at handover, which makes a real difference to getting value from it.
Is it worth it?
For homes with solar, yes. The ability to charge from your own generation rather than paying grid rates makes the premium worthwhile fairly quickly. We’re a MyEnergi Product Champion and install these regularly, so if you’d like to talk through whether the Zappi Glo is the right fit for your setup, give us a call.
