About the System
This installation used JA Solar panels paired with a Fox ESS hybrid inverter and battery storage system. A hybrid inverter like the Fox ESS is designed from the outset to work alongside battery storage, making it a more capable solution than adding a battery retrofit to an older string inverter setup.

How Solar and Battery Storage Work Together
Solar panels generate electricity during daylight hours, but output peaks around midday when household demand is often at its lowest. Without battery storage, surplus energy gets exported to the grid — typically at a much lower rate than the electricity you buy back in the evening.
Battery storage changes this. The Fox ESS system captures surplus generation throughout the day and deploys it when the household needs it most. In summer months, a well-sized system can meet most of a household’s evening demand from stored solar generation alone. In winter, the battery can still deliver savings by charging overnight using cheaper off-peak tariff electricity.
