About the System
This installation on Maple Avenue used JA Solar panels paired with a Fox ESS hybrid inverter and battery storage system. JA Solar panels deliver consistent output across varying conditions and carry strong long-term performance warranties, while the Fox ESS system manages energy flows automatically — prioritising self-consumption and charging the battery during the day for use in the evening.
A hybrid inverter handles DC power from the solar panels and manages the battery at the same time, making it inherently more efficient than adding an AC-coupled battery to an older string inverter setup.

We designed and installed the complete system at the customer’s property on Maple Avenue, Thornbury, from panel mounting and roof penetrations through to inverter wiring, battery installation and app setup.

How Solar and Battery Storage Work Together
On a sunny day, solar panels generate more electricity around midday than a typical household can use at that moment. Without battery storage, that surplus is exported to the grid — often at around 4–6p per kWh under the Smart Export Guarantee, compared to 25p+ you’d pay to import electricity in the evening.
Battery storage closes this gap. The Fox ESS system captures surplus generation throughout the day and makes it available in the evening, when the household would otherwise be drawing from the grid at peak rates. This shift from export to self-consumption is typically where the largest bill savings are found.
