The Smart Export Guarantee
Any electricity generated by the solar panels that the home doesn’t use immediately can be exported to the grid under the Smart Export Guarantee (SEG). Energy suppliers pay a rate per kWh exported, which adds up over the year — particularly in summer months when generation exceeds household demand.
Pairing solar with a battery storage system in the future would allow the homeowner to store that surplus rather than export it, increasing self-consumption further.
