If you own an electric vehicle in Bristol and you’re still charging from a three-pin socket or relying on public chargers, a dedicated home unit is worth thinking about. Here’s why.

It’s simply more convenient
Plug in when you get home, wake up with a full charge. No hunting for a working public charger, no queuing, no adapters. For most people this alone justifies the cost — you just stop thinking about charging as a thing you have to plan around.
It’s cheaper than public charging
Rapid public chargers are expensive — often 50–80p per kWh. Charging at home on a standard tariff typically costs around 25–30p per kWh, and on a time-of-use tariff like Octopus Go (cheap overnight electricity) it can be lower still. Over a year, that difference adds up significantly for most drivers.
It’s faster than a three-pin socket
A standard socket delivers around 6–8 miles of range per hour. A dedicated 7kW home charger gives you around 25–30 miles per hour. For most people’s daily driving, that means a full charge overnight with hours to spare. A standard socket can technically work, but it’s not designed for regular overnight use and it’s slow enough to be inconvenient on longer driving days.
Smart charging and solar integration
We install chargers including the MyEnergi Zappi and Wallbox Pulsar Max. Both have app control and smart charging features. The Zappi in particular is designed to integrate with solar panels — it can divert excess generation directly to your car rather than exporting it to the grid, which is useful if you have or are planning solar.
We carry out EV charger installations across Bristol and South Gloucestershire. Get in touch for a quote.
